WEC Welding and Machining made a big impact at the EPRI/RRAC Welding and Repair Technology for Power Plants Eighth International Conference held June 17-20, 2008 in Fort Myers, FL. The event, which is held every two years, highlighted emerging repair technologies and reviewed many established methodologies for repairing power plant components, including rotors/discs, casings, blades, nozzles, pipes, headers, reactor pressure vessels, steam generators, valves, and pumps.
To help kick off the week’s festivities, WEC Welding and Machining sponsored the welcome reception for over 370 attendees – a record attendance. The theme for the evening’s event was “Moon Over Havana”. Attendees were treated to delectable cuisine while enjoying an authenticCuban band playing a variety of Latin style music. In keeping with the theme, the area was set with decorative vendor stalls filled with an array of market wares. Diners were enveloped in the sizzle of the Havana heat as they dined at tables dressed with vividly colored floor length linens and overlays exploding with bright stripes of hot sherbet hues.Authentic cigar boxes filled with a plentiful array of colorful tropical florals, added a thematic festive ambiance to the table settings. Upholding the tradition of Cuban culture, an authentic Cuban cigar roller was on hand to provide guests hand rolled cigars adorned with a WEC Welding and Machining band.
In addition to its sponsorship role, WEC Welding and Machining presented on several topics including emerging repair technologies for fossil, nuclear, and steam turbines with specific emphasis on rotating and pressurized component repair and advanced technologies, such as automated welding.
“The participation and sponsorship by WEC Welding and Machining during the EPRI Welding & Repair Technology for Power Plants Conference provided attendees with both an enhanced technical program and enjoyable dining experience,” complimented Shane Findland, Program Manager, RRAC and BOP. “The presentations and displays provided by WEC Welding and Machining were informative and timely. We appreciate the continued support of this important conference by WEC Welding and Machining.”
